Q
What are the steps necessary for linear approximation
A
Where function is f(x)=sqrt(x), unknown is (x=4.36, y=?) and known is (x=4,y=2)
*find a known value for point near the unknown point
*find the equation for the line tangent to the known point
-use derivate of function to determine slope of the
line at x=4 (known)
-use point-slope equation of line y - y1 = m(x-x1)
*plug in known values and solve for y on the
tangent line function which should result in y
value near the real value of f(4.36)
