Linear And Quadratic Equations Flashcards
Whatever we perform on one side of an equation
We must also perform on the other side of the equation
Two methods for solving a system of linear equations of two variables
The Substitution Method and the Combination Method
Substitution Method
Isolate one of the two variables in either equation. Then insert the value of that variable into the other equation.
Combination Method
Given a system of equations, we can add one equation to another equation or subtract one equation from another equation in order to eliminate one variable and solve for the other variable.
3 quadratic identities that must be memorized
1) (x+y)^2=(x+y)(x+y)=x^2+y^2+2xy
2) (x-y)^2=(x-y)(x-y)=x^2+y^2-2xy
3) (x+y)(x-y)=x^2-y^2
