Q

Explanation of emission spectra

A

Ground state, most stable
Incident photon absorbed, if electron has sufficient energy it excites and leaves ground state
Reaches a more unstable, higher energy level
Dexcites, emits a photon, quantum of energy
E=hf
f determines the nature of light ie colour

A

When elements are heated, they emit light with certain, distinct wavelengths which are detected as colours by the human eye
