Contour
The line that defines the edge of a shape.
Cross-Contour
A line that moves across a shape to define surface undulations
Cross-Hatching
Hatching on top of hatching in a different direction
Gestural Lines
Lines drawn freely and quickly to capture the intrinsic spirit and animation in a subject. May imply past, present, or future motion
Hatching
Repeated strokes producing clustered lines, creating darker values.
Implied Line
A line which fades, stops, or disapears, the missing portion of which is implied to continue on.
Line
The path of a moving point made by a tool/instrument/medium as it moves across an area. A line usualy contrasts with its surroundings. 3D lines can be made of wire, tubes, etc…
Measure
The length and width of a line
Direction
The overall direction a line takes, not counting minor variations like zig-zagging along the way
Location
The actual location of the line in the artwork
Character
the characteristics of a line based on the instrument used to create it, as in how a chalk line differs from a pencil line
Type
Whether a line is “curved” or “straight” or “angular”, etc…
