Limestone Flashcards
What is limestone mostly made of?
Limestone is mainly calcium carbonate, CaCO3.
What is calcium carbonate?
a white insoluble solid occurring naturally as chalk, limestone, marble, and calcite.
What is the first stage of the Lime Cycle?
CaCO3 (or Calcium Carbonate)
What is the second stage of the Lime Cycle?
Add heat to get Cao and CO2
What is the third stage of the Lime Cycle?
Add water/H2O to get Ca(OH)
What is the fourth stage of the Lime Cycle?
add 4 loads of water/H2O to get Ca(OH) (or Limewater)
What is the fifth and final stage of the Lime Cycle?
Add CO2 to get CaCO3 (or Calcium Carbonate)
Pros of mining Limestone?
Income to the economy and more jobs.
Cons of mining Limestone?
Quarries are needed to mine Limestone, they are unpleasing to look at, dynamite is needed.
