Cyclorama

Barndoor
Coloured films of plastic placed in front of lamps
Gels
Expensive curtain like screen which can be used for lighting effects and projection
Gauze
A wash of colour that fills a large area of the stage
Wash
A special colour added to a wash to add atmosphere
Special
A circle of light, used to highlight an area. Often with darkness around
Spot
A large lantern, that gives a wash of colour over stage space
Parcan
A powerful lantern that can be focused to give large soft circles, or smaller, hard - edged circles of light
Profile
A versatile lantern that can provide intense colours
Fresnal
Sits over a lantern, which can adapt direct light
Barn Door
An extremely powerful, high intensity lantern that will ‘flood’ the stage with light
Flood
A flickering light that can create the effect of stilted movements when moved in darkness
Strobe
metal or plastic cut - outs, which can be placed in front of lanterns to create effects on stage walls or floors
Gobo
Fading down of one lighting state, whilst another is fading up
