Lighting 2017 Flashcards
List four factors that modern lighting design needs to consider
Social, Health, Well Being, Sustainability, Physical Effects of lighting
Lux (symbol: lx) and Lumen: Explain what Lux and Lumen are used to
measure.
Is a measure of light
Lumen: one lumen per square meter, lumen measures the amount of light produced. The more lumen the brighter the light
Lux: Measurement of intensity, as seen by the human eye, how light passes through and hits the light
Interior lighting design requires a holistic strategy from the outset. List four of the fundamental questions that need to be addressed
Objectives and Constraints
Interior Codes and Standards
Accent Lighting
Contrast Lighting
Task Lighting
Architectural Lighting
Other than the Building Code what lighting design suite of standards are used within New Zealand for interior lighting design and what other country shares the same standard
Austrailia
Explain how Light Shelves can assist with daylighting
- reduce glare by blocking view of the bright sky
- wash ceiling with daylight create a more even distribution of daylight
- if extended outside past the window, they act as shading devices –brise soleil –blocking glare/direct sunlight
Explain how one buildings proximity to another effects the available daylight.
A diagram can be used to assist your explanation
What guide was introduced to control external light pollution and explain why this is important.
AS/NZS 4282:2019 (Control of the obtrusive effects of outdoor lighting)
Formally recognised sensitive locations, such as Siding Spring Observatory (Australia) and Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve (New Zealand) may have requirements in addition to this standard.
What measure of protection is used to define the sealing effectiveness for external luminaires and what is the highest rating possible
IP Rating (Ingress Protection)
- Define levels of sealing effectiveness of electrical enclosures against foreign bodies (tools, dirt etc) and moisture.
- IP68
