What is lighting used for
Highlight important characters or objects within a frame by drawing the audience’s attention to them with the use of a bright light source
What is three point lighting
Three point lighting is also called Hollywood lighting and uses key fill and back lights to light up a scene
What is the key light
The main source of light
What happens if you use only key light
There will be contrasting shadows
What is fill light
A light that fills in areas of the scene
Has less intensity and is placed at eye level
What is the back light
It is placed above and behind the subject and creates a sense of depth
What happens if you only use the back light
It creates a silhouette
What is Chiarascuro Lighting
Lighting that uses a mix of light and shadow to create depth
Difference between naturalistic and expressionistic lighting
Naturalistic lighting can give a documentary feel to the film
Expressionistic lighting could be coloured lighting like in a horror film
