What is a Fresnel?
A Fresnel is a stage light that gives a wash of light to cover large areas of the stage.
What are Barn Doors?
You add Barn Doors to a Fresnel to direct the light to a certain area.
What is a Spot?
A Spot is more focussed light on a certain area.
What is a Gel?
You add Gels to make the light a certain colour.
What is a Gobo?
A Gobo is like a stencil made of thin metal which creates images on the stage.
What is a Follow Spot?
A follow spot follows a certain actor so they can be constantly lit as they move around the stage.
What is a Flood?
This is a rectangular light that can fill the whole stage evenly with the same light.
What is a Crossfade?
Changing between two effects by putting one down and the other up at the same time.
What is a Strobe?
A light that automatically flickers on and off very quickly.
What are some reasons lighting effects are used?
- Show an important moment in a drama.
- Show a change in mood/atmosphere/tension.
- To focus on one character.
What can you mention about lighting?
- % brightness/intensity
- Use of gels? What colour?
- Fade up/down or Snap to black
- Use of gobos.
What are the two types of spot beams?
Soft-edged or Hard-edged.
