Light & vision Flashcards
What is light?
Both a particle (photon) and a wave
Transverse electromagnetic wave
Define a transverse wave
“A wave in which the medium vibrates at right angles to the direction of the propagation” - Quote ( ,2022)
What is the speed of light?
300,000 km/s
What is the length of visible light?
400-700nm
List types of electromagnetic waves from longest to shortest waves
Radio waves, Microwaves, Infrared light, Visible light, UV, X-rays, Gamma rays
Define polarisation in the context of light waves
When light is polarised/goes through polarised medium, it oscillates on one plane only
Define unpolarised light
This is ‘normal’ light - where the electromagnetic fields oscillate in all directions
Refractive conditions: What is HYPEROPIA?
Where do images appear?
Long sightedness
Images focus behind retina
Refractive conditions: What is MYOPIA?
Where do images appear?
Short sightedness
Images focus in front of retina
What type of lens is used to correct myopia?
Concave lens is used to correct ____
What type of lens is used to correct hyperopia?
Convex lens is used to correct _____
