Light Stage - Absorption Of Light Flashcards
What is white light composed of?
White light is composed of different wavelengths (colours) of light
What can different wavelengths of light also be called?
Different colours of light
What does each colour of light (which makes up white light) represent?
Each colour represents a different level of energy
What do chloroplast contain?
Chloroplasts contain a range of pigments including chlorophyll (catalyst for photosynthesis)
Why does the chloroplast contain a range of different pigments?
Each of the chloroplast pigments absorbs a different colour of light
What is the main advantage of the chloroplast having a range of pigments?
By having a range of pigments, plants ensure that they can absorb a range of colours of light i.e. they can absorb as much light as possible
What colours of white light are absorbed by the chloroplast?
All colours of white light except green
What happens to green light when it hits a plant?
Green light is reflected by plants
Green light is reflected by light, what affect does this have on the plant?
This makes most plants green in colour
Why are most plants green in colour?
Because green light is reflected by plants
