The shortest of these has the lowest power magnification. The longest has the highest power magnification

coarse adjustment knob
larger knob at the side of the microscope
used for focusing the specimen, y adjusting the height of the stage
fine adjustment knob
smaller knob on the side of the microscope
used to fine-tune the focusing of the specimen
stage
large, flat platform under the objective lenses, on which the slides are placed
There is a hole (aperture) in the centre to allow light to pass through
stage clips
these are the clips on the top of the stage holding the slides in place
diaphragm / condenser
this is used to adjust the amount of light passing through the aperture in the stage.
light source
to illuminate (project light onto) the specimen
base
where you hold to carry the microscope
