Light & images Flashcards
4) What are the basic properties of light?
Light is energy light travels in a straight line Absorbed Reflected Refracted Transmitted Acts as a wave 300000km/s
1) What is light?
Energy packaged as photons travels at 300 000km/sec
5) What 3 things can happen to light when it hits on object?
Absorbs (takes in)
Reflects (bounces off)
Refracted (bent)
2) what kinds of energy can be transformed into light?
Chemical, electrical, nuclear, thermal
7) what are the two types of reflection? Define
Diffuse: from a rough surface, doesn’t produce a clear image. Instead you see what’s on the surface
Specular: from a mirror like surface, produces a image of the surroundings
8) how does diffuse reflection allow you to read ink on paper?
The black ink absorbs most of the incident light and doesn’t reflect back to your eye, white paper producing diffuse reflection and reflects the Rays in all directions
9) what is the difference between real and virtual images?
Real: can be placed on a screen
Virtual: only be seen by looking through an optical device
What is the darker part of a shadow called?
Umbra
What is the lighter part of the shadow called?
Penumbra
