Light and Particles Flashcards
Concave Lens
A lens having at least one surface curved like the inner surface of a sphere.
Concave Mirror
A concave mirror is a surface that curves inwards
Convex Lens
A lens having at least one surface that curves outward like the exterior of a sphere.
Convex Mirror
A mirror with it’s surface curved from the edges to the center.
Farsightedness
seeing objects at a distance more clearly than those near at hand; hyperopic.
Lens
a piece of transparent substance, usually glass, having two opposite surfaces either both curved or one curved and one plane, used in an optical device in changing the convergence of light rays, as for magnification, or in correcting defects of vision.
Nearsightedness
seeing distinctly at a short distance only
Plane Mirror
A plane mirror, while not a common term, is a common device that we use in several ways around the home, in our offices and in our vehicles.
Retina
the innermost coat of the posterior part of the eyeball that receives the image produced by the lens, is continuous with the optic nerve, and consists of several layers, one of which contains the rods and cones that are sensitive to light. See diag. under eye.
Virtual Image
an optical image formed by the apparent divergence of rays from a point, rather than their actual divergence from a point
