Light Flashcards
what are luminous objects
objects that create light
in what shape does light travel in from a source
straight lines from the source
what kinds of objects does light travel through
transparent objects but not opaque ones
when are shadows made
when light is blocked by an object
what do opaque objects do to light
block all light
what do translucent objects do to light
show a glow of light through them
what is it called when translucent objects let light pass though them
transmitting light
what do opaque objects do in terms of transmitting and absorbing
can reflect or absorb light
what do white surfaces do to light
reflect most light that hits them
what do black surfaces do to light
absorb light very well and reflect vey little. this is why they look so dark
what happens to energy when an object absorbs light
the energy transferred by light it converted to heat energy when an object absorbs light
what is a pinhole camera
a simple camera with a small hole in one end and a screen at the other. It works in a similar way to our eyes.
how does they eye work
Light rays go through the pupil, which is a hole at the front of the eye.
A tiny upside-down image forms on the retina at the back of the eye. The retina changes light energy
into electrical signals (impulses).
The impulses travel to the brain along a nerve. Your brain allows you to see the image the right way up.
