Light Flashcards
How does light travel?
Light travels in a straight line.
How fast does light travel?
300,000,000 m/s
What does opaque mean?
You can’t see through it and light can’t pass through it.
What does transparent mean?
You can see through it and light can pass through it.
What does translucent mean?
You can partly see through it and some light can pass through it.
What does absorb mean?
When something is taken in.
What does transmit mean?
Something that allows the light to travel through like glass.
What does reflect mean?
When something bounces if another object and goes the other way.
What does luminous mean?
An object that gives out its own light.
What does non-luminous mean?
An object that doesn’t give out its own light and has another light source.
What happens when light is reflected?
The angle of incidence, which is where you put the light source, is the same as the angle of reflection, which is where the light is reflected.
What happens when light has to travel through another density?
The angle of refraction changes.
What is white light?
It is a mixture of all the colours in the spectrum and it is made up of seperate colours that can be mixed again to make white light.
When light travels into a more dense medium what happens?
The light ray bends away from the normal.
When light travels into a less dense medium what happens?
The light ray bends towards the normal.
