Light Flashcards
What kind of surface Will light bounce off?
Reflective or shiny surfaces
how do we know that light travels in straight lines?
Because we can’t see round corners, and because like cast shadow behind objects.
What is the law of reflection?
The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection
How will the light rays reflect from a convex mirror?
They spread out
How will the light rays reflect off a concave surface?
They will come to a focal point.
What happens When light enters or exits are transparent object or substance?
It is bent
Why does light bend when it enters a transparent object or substance?
Because the light is slowed down as it enters and speeds up as it exits
As light enters a clear block does it bend towards or away from the normal line?
Towards
As light leaves a clear block does it bend towards or away from the normal line?
Away from.
What happens if the angle of incidence of a ray of light bouncing off something is greater than 50°?
It is reflected
What are the two types of lenses?
Convex and concave
What happens at the focal point when light passes through a convex lens
Like rays converge
Would the focal point to be further away or closer to the lens if the lens was thinner?
Would be further away
What happens to light rays when they pass through a concave lens?
They spread apart
What is the difference between light reflection and light refraction?
Reflection means light bouncing off a surface, refraction means light passing through And object or substance and bending
