Light Flashcards
Movement of light
Light bends towards the normal as it slows and the converse
Dispersion
When a spectrum of different colours is created because different colours travel at different speeds in the glass, the greater the amount of refraction the greater the change of speed, red is refracted the least as it is slowed the least and violet is refracted the most as it is slowed the most
Angle of incidence and reflection
Measured from a line at right angles to the mirror known as the normal and are equal to each other
How does refraction effect speed
The greater the refraction the greater the change of speed
Critical angle
When the angle of incidence in the glass reaches the critical angle, the angle of reflection in the air will be 90 degrees
When the angle of incidence in the glass is greater than the critical angle, total internal reflection occurs
Short sight vs long sight
Short sighted people’s eyes grow too long so the focal point is in front of the retina
Long sighted people’s eyes grow too short so the focal point is behind the retina
