light Flashcards
what is light
light is an electromagnetic radiation which causes the sense of vision
What is rectilinear propagation of light
The tendency of light to propagate in straight lines
What is the reflection of light
The bouncing back all scattering of flight from the surface of an object that is placed in the path
Types of reflections
Regular reflection and its regular reflection
What is incident ray
The ray that hits the surface of the plane mirror
What is reflected ray
The ray that gets reflected of the surface
How can we see the reflection of the surrounding in water bodies
The still water is able to reflect light because of the smooth
Explain regular reflection
The reflection of light rays from a plane and uniform surface
Explain irregular reflection
The reflection of light rays from a rough and nonuniform surface
Types of images
Real image and virtual image
What is a real image
A real images formed when light rays coming from an object meet each other at a particular point after reflection
What is virtual image
A virtual images formed when the light race coming from an object does not appear to meet each other
What is lateral inversion
Phenomenon in which the left hand side of an object appears at right hand side of in object in a plane mirror and vice versa
What are spherical mirrors
Made with has the shape of a piece cut out of a hollow glassware with one side polished or reflected surface
Types of spherical mirror
Concave and convex
Concave mirror
If the part of the mirror that curves in word is polished and serve as the reflecting surface then it’s called a concave mirror
Convex mirror
If the part of the mirror that curves outwards is polished in serves as the reflecting surface it is called a convex mirror
Characteristics of concave mirror
Producers real image
Converges light rays
Characteristics of a convex mirror
Producers of virtual image
Light race diverges
Uses of plane mirror
Used to make different optical devices such as Periscope in kaleidoscope
Used to see ourselves that various places
Uses of convex mirror
Used as rear view mirrors in vehicles to look over the wider area
Used in various places like shop parking lots in order to keep a watch over large areas for security reasons
Uses of a concave mirror Mirror
Used as shaving mirrors
Used by dentist to magnify the small parts of the teeth
Used as a reflector in various devices such as torch lights car headlights etc
What is a lens
A lens is a transparent medium or substance bounded by two surfaces of which at least one is curved
What is the use of lens
Islands is used to bend the light rays as the pass through it, that means the light rays apus to come from a point which is closer or further instead of the actual place of origin
Types of lenses
Concave lenses and convex lenses
What are concave lenses
A Concave or diverging lens is thin in the middle and thicker at the edges. It diverges the light rays when passed through
What kind of image does a concave lens produce
Virtual and upright images
