4
Q

What is a reflecting and a refracting telescope.

A

Reflection is the bouncing back of light when it strikes a smooth surface. Refraction is the bending of light rays when it travels from one median to another.

Q

How does a microscope work?

A

When light reflects off an object being viewed under the microscope and passes through the lens it bends toward the eye making an object look bigger than it really is.

6
Q

How do binoculars work?

A

They consist of two chambers with lenses, eye piece and a pair of prisms inside. The prism reflect and lengthen the light while the lenses enhance and magnify

7
Q

How do shadows work?

A

They are made by blocking light and leaving dark lightless spots.

16
Q

What is the retina?

A

A thin layer of tissue that lines the back of the eye

17
Q

What is a pupil?

A

The dark colored opening at the centre of your eye that lets light in

18
Q

What is a lens?

A

Transparent biconvex structure suspend behind the iris of the eye. The sole function which is to focus light rays onto the retina

19
Q

What is the iris?

A

The pigmented muscular curtain near the front of the eye between the cornea and the lens.

20
Q

What is the optic nerve?

A

A bundle of more than one million nerve fibres that carry visual messages.

21
Q

What is the aperture?

A

The opening of a lens diaphragm through which light passes

22
Q

What is the shutter?

A

Allows light to pass for a determined time

23
Q

What is the diaphragm?

A

A lens composed of overlapping metal blades that open and close

24
Q

What is the film?

A

A chemical emulsion on a plastic substance that is sensitive to light

25
Q

How are cameras and eyes similar?

A

A eye and a camera both have lense and light sensitive surfaces. Your isis controls how much light enters your eye and the diaphragm does the same.

26
Q

What are compound eyes?

A

They are composed up of thousands of smaller lenses allowing them to have a large field of vision. The resolution is bad and they can see in slowmo.

27
Q

What are pixels?

A

A programmable unit consisting of three colors, red, green and blue. Different amounts of power put into a pixel changes its color intensity making different colors.

28
Q

What are low res and high res screens?

A

Lo res have 72 pixels per inch, high res have 300 pixels per inch.

29
Q

The electromagnetic spectrum stars with…

A

Radio then microwave then infrared then visible then ultraviolet then x-ray then gamma ray.

30
Q

What is a convex lens?

A

A lens that focuses light.

31
Q

How do incandescent lights work?

A

When electrical current makes contact with the base of the bulb, electricity heats up the filament in the bulb and creates a bright light.

32
Q

How is a mirage formed?

A

IT IS FORMED WHEN THE GROUND IS HOT AND THE AIR IS COOL. THE GROUND WARMS A LAYER OF AIR JUST ABOVE THE GROUND AND LIGHT IS REFLECTED IN A U SHAPE.
