Ligaments of the SIJ and HIP Flashcards
Sacrotuberous ligament attachments
from posterior iliac spine & lateral margin of the sacrum to the ischial tuberosity
Sacrotuberous ligament function
stabilizes the SI joint
sacropinous lig attachments
From the ischial spine to the lateral margin of the sacrum
sacrospinous lig function
stabilizes SI joint
fibrous joint capsule attachments
from the margin of the acetabulum to the neck, intertrochanteric line & intertrochanteric crest of the femur
Iliofemoral ligament attachments
from the anterior inferior iliac spine to the intertrochanteric line of the femur
Iliofemoral ligament function
Y LIGAMENT
limits extension, ER, IR
can hold the body weight balance over the femoral heads
pubofemoral ligament attachments
from the iliopubic eminence and superior pubic ramus to the fibrous capsule
pubofemoral ligament function
limits abduction of the femur, limits extension, limits external rotation
ischiofemoral ligament attachments
- from the ischium posterior to the acetabulum to the greater trochanter & iliofemoral ligament
ischiofemoral function
assists the iliofemoral lig. in limiting the extension of the femur
also limits: internal rotation, adduction
Attachments for ligament of the head of the femur (ligamentum teres)
from the fovea of the femoral head to the acetabular notch
transverse acetabular ligament attachments
interconnects the margins of the acetabular notch
Interosseous ligament of the SIJ
a short but very strong band that spans the gap between the sacrum and ilium on the posterior side of the joint by attaching on their tuberosities, just behind the auricular surfaces.
Occasionally, one or two accessory joint cavities can be identified within the ligament.
