ligaments Flashcards
What are the ligaments of the vertebral column?
anterior longitudinal ligament posterior longitudinal ligament ligamentum flava supraspinous ligament nuchal ligament interspinous ligament intertransverse ligament
What are ligaments associated with the odontoid prices of C2?
Cruciform ligament
alar ligament
What do the anterior longitudinal ligament connect?
The anterior aspect of vertebral bodies and the in vertebral disk
found from C1 to the sacrum
What do the anterior longitudinal ligament do?
they are long and broad and limit extension of the vert column
What do the posterior longitudinal ligament connect?
posterior aspect of vertebral column and intervertebral disk within the canal, found from C2 to sacrum
What does the posterior longitudinal ligament do?
limits flexion of the vertebral column
Where are the ligamentum flava found?
elastic ligaments between lamina
they resist separation of arches limiting flexion
What do the supraspinous ligament connect?
apices of spines from C7 to sacrum
limits flexion of vert column
What is the nuchal ligament?
lies atop supraspinous ligament from C7 to the occipital proturbence of the skull.
attaches cervical vert and Foramen magnum
site for muscle attachment
What do the interspinous ligament connect?
spines of adjacent vert
What do the inter transverse ligament connect?
transverse process of adjacent vert
What is the cruciform ligament?
transverse band that connects dens to the lateral masses of C1
longitudinal band which connects the dens to the occipital bone of foramen magnum
What do the alar ligament connect?
the dens to the occipital condyles
