Ligaments Flashcards
Anterior longitudinal
location - vertebral column ligament attachments - to anterior surfaces of vertebral bodies and intervertebral discs function - stabilizes vertebral column and prevents hyperextension
Posterior longitudinal
location - vertebral column ligament attachments - to posterior surfaces of vertebral bodies and intervertebral discs function - prevents hyperflexion of vertebral column
Ligamentum flavum
location - vertebral column ligament attachments - interconnect adjacent laminae
Supraspinous
location - vertebral column ligament attachments - to apices of spinous processes C7 to sacrum
Interspinous
location - vertebral column ligament attachments - interconnect adjacent spinous processes
Ligamentum nuchae
location - vertebral column ligament attachments - from C7 spinous process to external occipital protuberance
Sacrotuberous
location - pelvic girdle & hip ligament attachments - from posterior superior iliac spine & lateral margin of the sacrum to the ischial tuberosity
Sacrospinous
location - pelvic girdle & hip ligament attachments - from the ischial spine to lateral margin of the sacrum
Fibrous joint capsule
location - pelvic girdle & hip ligament attachments - from the margin of the acetabulum to the neck, intertrochanteric line & intertrochanteric crest of the femur
Iliofemoral
location - pelvic girdle & hip ligament attachments - from the anterior inferior iliac spine to the intertrochanteric line of femur function - limits extension of the femur
Pubofemoral
location - pelvic girdle & hip ligament attachments - from the iliopubic eminence and superior pubic ramus to the fibrous capsule function - limits abduction of the femur
Ischiofemoral
location - pelvic girdle & hip ligament attachments - from the ischium posterior to the acetabulum to the greater trochanter & iliofemoral ligament function - assists the iliofemoral lig. in limiting extension of the femur
Ligament of the femoral head
location - pelvic girdle & hip ligament attachments - from the fovea of the femoral head to the acetabular notch
Fibrous capsule of knee
location - knee & leg ligament attachments - from the margins of the femoral condyles to the margins of the tibial condyles
Tibial (medial) collateral
location - knee & leg ligament attachments - from the medial epicondyle of the femur to the medial condyle & shaft of the tibia function - stabilizes the medial aspect of the joint (prevents abduction of the tibia)
Fibular (lateral) collateral
location - knee & leg ligament attachments - from the lateral epicondyle of the femur to the head of the fibula function - stabilizes the lateral aspect of the joint (prevents adduction of the tibia)
