Lift Augementation Flashcards
If you extend your flaps more than the intended setting . I.e. 30 instead of 15
You increase lift making capabilities and therefore reduced the amount of speed needed for landing . Reducing the speed means you need to sustain a higher AoA which means a larger pitch up so tail strike is more likely
Cl is
1/v^2
When the lift coefficient equals zero on a symmetrical aero foil
No nose pitching moment exists
Trailing edge flap extension will
Decrease critical angle of attack and increase the value of cl max
For cambered aerofoils
Thé Cp moves forward as angle of attack increases and moves backwards as angle of attack decreases
Increasing sweepback
Increases stall speed
If the thrust line is above the CG
Pitch down and can have a stabilising effect
During a straight steady descent
Lift is less than weight because lift needs to balance the weight component perpendicular to the flight path
