How can exercise help prevent hypertension?
regular physical activity makes your heart stronger, a stronger heart can pump more blood with less effort, therefore lowering blood pressure
Stroke
this happens when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off
How can exercise help prevent a stroke?
moving more can help reduce the risk of a stroke because it slows the clogging up of your arteries, keeps your heart healthy and lowers your blood pressure
Coronary heart disease
the hearts blood supply is blocked by a build up of fatty substances in the coronary arteries
Atherosclerosis
build up of cholesterol in the arteries
Heart attack
when the blood supply to the heart is suddenly blocked, usually by a blood clot
How can exercise help prevent a heart attack?
Exercise makes your heart stronger so it can pump more blood around the body easily
COPD
a group of lung conditions that cause breathing difficulties
How can exercise help prevent COPD?
regular aerobic activity increases the number of alveoli in the lungs which means there is more space for gaseous exchange to take place
Asthma
a lung condition that causes occasional breathing difficulties
How can exercise help prevent asthma?
raising your heart rate regularly boosts your lung power, increasing stamina and reducing breathlessness
activity helps you stay a healthy weight, in turn cutting your risk of an asthma attack
