What is lifespan development?
Age-related changes occurring from birth, throughout a person’s life, into and during old age.
How many stages of life are there?
Six.
When is childhood?
2-10yrs
When is adolescence?
10-20yrs
When is early adulthood? (prime of life)
20-40yrs
When is middle age?
40-65yrs
When is rapid foetal growth?
Third Trimester
What organs develop in the first 4 weeks?
Placenta (week 1), brain and spinal cord (week 2), heart and foetal circulation (week 3), lungs (week 4)
When is the critical period?
First trimester
What is the first adaptation during pregnancy?
Umbilical vein - carries oxygenated blood from the placenta to the foetus and continues into the mother’s liver.
What is the second adaptation during pregnancy?
Ductus Venosus - carries oxygenated blood from the umbilical vein and meets up with inferior vena cava.
What is the third adaptation during pregnancy?
Foramen Ovale - allows blood to go from one atrium to the other.
What is the fourth adaptation during pregnancy?
Ductus Arteriosus - allows blood to go from the pulmonary artery to the aorta.
What is the fifth adaptation during pregnancy?
Umbilical Artery - carries deoxygenated blood from the foetal circulation to the placenta.
What happens during childhood?
Slow, steady physical growth and refinement of motor skills.
