A- airways

what is the time period where brain cell start to die from the lack of O2
3-5 minutes
what conditions can affect breathing?
- A heart attack
- An inury to chest or head
- Drowning
- A severe allergy
- poisoning by drugs or toxic gases
What is Shock?
life -threatening condition which occurs when the body’s circulatory system fails for some reason. Enough O2 can’t be pumped around the body.
This can lead to death.
Signs of shock?
-cold sweaty skin
-weak, unable to stand
-skin much paler than usual
what are some causes of shock?
- excessive bleeding, internally or externally
- failure of the heart pumping properly (HEART ATTACK)
- hypoglycaemia
- heavy fluid loss (VOMITING, DIARRHOEA, SEVERE BURNS)
What is Basic life support (BLS)
- LOOK FOR DANGER
-CPR (chest compressions - Rescue breaths
(30:2 in terms of chest compressions and rescue breaths).
Agonal breathing
- Abnormal breathing pattern
- typically slow, sometimes nosiy
-occurs every 10-15 seconds
what are some sounds people with agonal breathing make?
- gasping
-snorting - gurgling
- making funny noises
(note patients may be collapsed and uncoscious)
what two things potential cause of shock
- heavy fluid loss
- failure of the heart pumping properly
what can cause uncosciousness might affect a person’s airways ?
- the tongue may flop back and block the airway
is one sided weakness a sign of shock

- usually sign of a stroke.
