Life Skills Unit 2 Test Flashcards
How do your thoughts and feelings relate to behavior?
If we are thinking and living positively, our behavior will likely be positive. If we are thinking and living negatively, our behavior will likely be negative.
What is stress?
Stress is the way your body responds physically, mentally, and emotionally to life changes.
What is the fight or flight reaction? How can it hurt/help us?
The fight or flight reaction is our bodies way of either leaving the stressful situation or fighting against the stress. It can hurt us because it can cause many health problems, including weight gain/loss, anxiety, sleep problems, etc. It can help by allowing us perform amazing acts in threatening situations.
What is the hormone that gives us extra energy during fight or flight?
Adrenalin
How are negative feelings like fear, anger, and anxiety related to stress?
During stressful situations, fear, anger, and anxiety may cause our bodies to tense up. We may want to lash out on something or someone. These emotions start to take control over ourselves but need to find ways to prevent these things from occurring.
What are 3 of the 5 stress management categories that we learned about (our presentations)? Give at least 3 examples of how stress could be managed for each category.
- Being ready when your stress strikes- get plenty of sleep, physical activity, and a positive mindset.
- Finding ways to release tension and relaxation- physical activity, sleeping, spending time outdoors.
- Asking for help- talking with trusted friends, family members, and/or therapists.
What is the difference between anger triggers and anger cues?
Anger triggers are the things that make you mad or trigger stress and anger (the cause). Anger cues are physical changes that your body goes through that lets you know you’re getting mad.
What are the 6 steps to the conflict resolution process?
- Define the problem
- Suggest a solution
- Evaluate a solution
- Compromise
- Brainstorm
- Seek help
What are the 3 anger styles? Describe each.
- Acting Out- Coming on strong, someone who yells, pushes, or simply lashes out.
- Displaced Anger- You get mad at someone (or something) and take it out on somebody (or something else).
3.Ignored Anger- You hold your anger in and let it bottle up until you later explode.
