Life Science Quiz 2 Flashcards
What are the similarities between photosynthesis and cellular respiration
They are opposite processes. Photosynthesis is in plant cells and some bacteria where sunlight carbon dioxide and water are used to make glucose. The glucose process is also made in cellular respiration in plant and animal cells its broken down with oxygen to make carbon dioxide and water
Formulas for photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide + water + light energy-> glucose + water
6CO2 + 6H2O + light -> C6H12O6 + 602
Formulas for cellular respiration
Glucose + oxygen -> carbon dioxide + water + energy
C6H12O6 + 602 -> 6CO2 + 6H2O + energy
Passive transport
The movement of substances across a cell membrane without the use of energy. It relies on concentration gradients moving substances from an area of high to low concentration.
Active transport
Requires energy to move substances against the concentrated gradient. From area of low to high concentration
Osmosis
A specific type of diffusion which involves water molecules. It’s the movement of water form an area of low to high concentration.
Diffusion
The movement of the solute form a area of high to low concentration
Cell differeation
The process of which a less specialized cell becomes a more specialized cell it’s important for multicellular organisms because it allows the cells to develop specific functions that work together to the working of a organism
