Life Science Flashcards
ecosystem
A place where non-living things interact with living things.
A place where non-living things interact with living things.
living things in an ecosystem
abiotic factors
non-living things (water, soil, temperature, rocks…)
terrarium
A sealed transparent globe or similar container in which plants are grown.
aquarium
A transparent tank of water in which fish and other water organisms are kept.
organism
Any living thing
producer
A green plant that goes through photosynthesis and makes its own food.
consumer
A living thing that gets its energy from eating plants and or animals.
decomposer
A consumer that gets its energy from dead plants and animals and returns nutrients to the ecosystem.
energy
(changes matter) In an ecosystem, the sun’s radiation provides energy which, through the food web, makes its way to all living things.
microorganisms
organisms that are too small to be seen without a microscope.
photosynthesis
The process by which producers use the sun’s energy, water, and carbon dioxide, to make their own food. (Glucose)
predator-prey relationship
The interaction between a predator and its prey in which the predator hunts and kills the prey for food.
symbiotic relationship
An interaction between two different species where at least one of the organisms benefit from the relationship.
mutualism
A symbiotic relationship where both organisms benefit. (+ +)
