Life Science Flashcards
What is Cytoplasm? What does it do?
It is the gelatinous liquid that fills the inside of the cell. It provides a platform upon which other organelles can operate within the cell.
What is the Nucleus?
The nucleus contains your DNA and your chromosomes.
What is the Plasma Membrane?
Balances the transport of materials entering and exiting the cell.
What is a Vacuole?
Takes in and throws away waste, and stores water.
What is a Vesicle?
A vesicle carries molecules around.
What is the Golgi Apparatus?
It receives protein form the Endoplasmic reticulum and moves it through the cell.
What are Ribosomes?
They create proteins for the rest of the cell.
What is Mithocondria?
It is the powerhouse of the cell and generates most of the energy for the cell.
What is a Phospholipid Bi-Layer?
It lets molecules and ions in and out of the cell.
What is a Cytoskeleton?
It helps with the cells stability and helps the different organelles do their jobs.
What is the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum?
The smooth ER generates proteins for the golgi apparatus.
What is the Rough ER?
The rough ER is the same as the smooth ER, except the rough ER has ribosomes on it.
