LIFE PROCESSES Flashcards
It is about our life system. It is a biology chapter. Where u discover different types of body parts and their function what do they do
What is Life Process?
The process which together perform the maintenance job are called life process for example, Nutrition, Respiration, Excretion and Transportation.
What is nutrition?
The process of intake and utilization of nutrients is known as nutrition.
What is excretion?
The process of removing unwanted materials out of the body is known as excretion.
What is transportation?
The process of carrying food, oxygen and other supplies from one place to another is known as transportation.
What is respiration?
The process of acquiring oxygen from outside the body and using it to breakdown food for energy is known as respiration.
Why is diffusion insufficient to meet the oxygen requirements of multicellular organisms like humans?
In multicellular organisms, all cells may not be in direct contact with the surrounding environment so simple diffusion will not meet the requirements of all cells.
What are outside raw materials used for by an organism?
The outside raw material is used by organisms for food and oxygen. Raw materials’ requirement varies on the complexity of the organism and the environment it is living.
- What processes would you consider essential for maintaining life?
Life processes such as respiration, digestion, excretion, circulation and transportation are essential for maintaining life.
Where do plants get each of the raw materials required for photosynthesis?
Plants require the following raw material for photosynthesis:
1.CO2 is obtained from the atmosphere through stomata.
2.Water is absorbed by plant roots from the soil.
3.Sunlight is an essential raw material for photosynthesis.
4.Nutrients are obtained by soil by plant roots
What are saprophytes?
Organisms breakdown the food material outside the body and then absorb it. For example, fungi like bread mold, yeast and mushroom they are called saprophytes.
What are Holozoic Organism?
Organisms which take in food and then absorb it is known as holozoic organisms for example animals Animals, Humans, etc
What are parasites?
Organisms that obtain nutrition directly from host without killing it is known as parasites. For example, lies, Cuscuta, tapeworms, etc.
What are the components of the transport system in human beings?
The heart, blood and blood vessels are the main components of the transport system in human beings.
How is the amount of urine produced regulated?
The amount of urine produced depends on the amount of excess water and dissolved waste present in the body. Other factors may be the environment and the ADH hormone, which regulates the production of urine.
What is blood pressure?
The force that blood exerts against the wall of a vessel is called blood pressure.
