Q

Describe the interactions of organisms in food webs

A

Due to changing factors within a food web organisms can increase or decrease. Some organisms can be completely removed.

The removal or introduction of a species into a food web can have an effect on other organisms causing them to increase or decrease in number.

An increase in the remaining organisms could be due to less competition for resources or less predation

16
Q

What is competition

A

Competition in ecosystems occurs when resources are in short supply

17
Q

What is interspecific competition

A

Interspecific competition occurs amongst individuals of different species for one or a few of the recourses they require

18
Q

What is intraspecific competition

A

Intraspecific competition occurs amongst individuals of the same species and is for all resources required

19
Q

Which type of competition is more intense and why?

A

Intraspecific competition is therefore more intense than interspecific because they are competing for the same resources
