Life on Earth Flashcards
how will changes in
WATER cycle affect…
> in terms of natural
places will experience different precipitation levels as climate bands move away from tropical zones.
● Many areas will experience longer periods of drought, leading to environmental issues such as soil erosion, fires, tropical disease extension and issues for food production.
● Other areas will experience increased rainfall, causing flash floods.
● Sea level rise through thermal expansion of water (40%) volumes plus cryospheric water storage melts are forecast to lead to low lying land being flooded
how will changes in
CARON cycle affect…
in terms of the future
likely see a rise in temperature due to the causal relationship they have
this will increase in the intensity, extent and frequency of tropical storms causing severe damage to the natural and built environment where they are experienced.
how will changes in
CARON cycle affect…
in the majorbodies of carbon
trees more productive,
sequester more carbon but they die younger
enhanced greenhouse gas effect, greatly disturbing the magnitude of water stores esp cryopsheric and hydrospheric
how will changes in
WATER cycle affect…
> in terms of human
> significant environmental damage in the coming decades putting coastal communities at risk
mass migration may occur resulting in socio-eco deterioration.
pressures on politcal stances and quality of life
insurance premiums in areas increase
evaluative point on carbon cycle
which is the bigger deal?
small scale carbon changes can have negative regional impacts (on agricultural practises due to wildfires)
larger scale carbon cycle GREATLY threaten life on Earth on the terrestrial, atmospheric and oceanic level.
carbon and temperature
the causal relationship between them can create a postive feedback loop, threatening life on Earth as impacts can be devestating
e.g. increased flooding and expansion of arid and semi arid areas
