Magisterium
The teaching authority of the Church, exercised by the bishops in communion with the Pope.
The magisterium is given grace by the Holy Spirit to faithfully interpret the Scriptures and Tradition.
Death
The end of physical life.
When the body ceases completely to function.
Eternal life
Life in heaven after death.
The phrase Jesus uses to describe a state of living as God intends which leads to this life in heaven.
Soul
The part of a human being which lives on after death of the body.
Also a name for a human being’s mind.
What is Vatican 2?
The second council to be held at the Vatican in Rome.
Why was Vatican 2 held?
The Pope wanted to modernise the Church and for people to feel more involved and connected to their faith.
What is extraordinary magisterium?
When the Church come together to discuss certain issues that have more importance e.g. Vatican 2
What is ordinary magisterium?
When the Pope and the bishops write letters in order to give instructions on how to respond to issues not included in the Bible e.g. Evangeli Gaudium
What is pontifical magisterium?
When the Pope makes his own decisions.
Very rare, another form of extraordinary magisterium.
