Q

Describe one world religion’s teachings about final judgement (5)

A
  • In Christianity Christians are taught that all of humanity will face judgement. This will happen when Jesus returns (Second coming, parousia)
  • Evidence for this judgement can be found in one of the parables of Jesus known as the Parable of the Sheep and Goats
  • He will separate the people as a Shepard separates sheep and goats. On the right are the sheep who are righteous and will go to heaven because they helped ‘the least of God’s people’
  • Likewise The Goats On the left will be damned for not feeding, watering, clothing, visiting and welcoming
  • Full of indignation, those goats didn’t see an opportunity to see Jesus in the ‘least of God’s people’. The punishment is hell and reward is heaven

A
  • Humanists, atheists, materialists and naturalists reject the idea of a soul
  • They believe there is nothing after death
  • When a person ceases to exist their soul does too
  • They refuse the Hindu teaching on the Atman and Karma determining hope of reincarnation
  • Many non-religious free thinkers think that teaching on the soul is a primitive notion, a juvenile example used by thinkers many centuries ago. Science today has destroyed teachings on the soul
