Pathos
a quality that evokes pity or sadness
Parallelism
the use of successive verbal constructions in poetry or prose that correspond in grammatical structure, sound, meter, meaning, etc.
Polysyndeton
the use of multiple conjunctions or coordinate clauses in close succession, as in “The bad news caused him to weep and cry and wail”
Rhetoric
the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques.
Rhetorical Triangle
The relationship between the three forms of rhetoric - Ethos (character), Pathos (emotion), and Logos (logic)
Synecdoche
a figure of speech in which a part is made to represent the whole or vice versa, as in Cleveland won by six runs (meaning “Cleveland’s baseball team”).
