Q

What is the mechanism of action of lidocaine?

A

Sodium channel blockade → prevents initiation and conduction of nerve impulses

  • decreases SNS response to laryngoscopy/intubation
  • suppresses automaticity of cardiac conduction tissue
  • local anesthesia
