LIDAR Flashcards
1- Care?
- Protect optical lens from contact with any other object.
- only clean the optical lens with optical cleaner.
- Store & transport in protective case.
2- Six don’t? (know 4)
1- Don’t aim the laser at the sun.
2- Don’t clean it the with your shirt or hankey.
3- Don’t operate with a large cosine.
4- Don’t operate without proper line of sight.
5- Don’t pan or sweep across target.
5- Don’t operate through any fixed or closed windows.
3- What does laser stand for?
L- Light
A- Amplification by
S- Stimulated
E- Emission of
R- Radiation.
4- Test failure?
- Error message displayed on the rear panel.
- “help” displayed in the HUD.
- Restart device. Return to REU if error still appears.
5- Aiming the reticle?
- Aim at the centre of the number plate or leadlight if motorcycle.
- Reading can be obtained at a greater range if vehicle is receding.
6- What 3 functions does the HUD perform?
1- Provide an aiming reticle.
2- Display distance and speed.
3- Tracking alert marked “X” after a 3 second continues tone.
7- Lidar will “sleep” in?
2 MINS
8- Lidar will shut down in?
15 MINS
9- What is poor weather mode?
- Activated by pressing “poor weather” button for 3 seconds.
- Improves device sensitivity.
- Minimum range is set to 60m.
- For fog, dust, snow and rain.
10- How is the sweep effect negated?
It is eliminated by having a complete tracking history
11- How to record a speed as an event?
Press the “Tick” button.
12- How to check Hud alignment?
- Place pro laser in range mode.
2- listen for beep.
3- Pull trigger.
4- Measure distance (25m and 50m)
5- Move unit left to right across pole, tone should be heard when reticle on pole.
6- Rotate 90 degrees and perform step 5 again.
13- What frequency is used?
330 Thz
14- Operating temperature?
-30 to +60 (same as radar).
15- What does LiDAR mean?
L- LIght.
D- Detection.
A- And.
R- Ranging.
16- What are the 7 steps for a valid speed check. (Know them verbatim)
V
V
P
O

1- Visual observation of the target vehicle & traffic.
2- Visual estimation of the target’s speed.
3- Place aiming reticle on the target vehicle.
4- Obtain a solid tone & speed reading.
5- Verify the estimation of speed & speed reading agree (within limits).
6- Minimum 3 second check.
7- Continue to track visually.
17- What is the spread of the Prolaser 4?
15cm at 2438m
18- Speed detection range?
8km/h – 320km/h.
19- Speed Accuracy?
+ or – 1km/h.
20- How is the speed detected?
- Time of flight method.
- Each light pulse is timed from being emitted to reaching a target.
- 200 pulse of light emitted every second.
- 70 pulses must return before a speed is displayed. (0.3 seconds)
21- What is the default setting?
- Speed mode.
- 2438m range (600m for NSW police)
- Both directions.
21- What is the tolerance when performing start up procedure?
+ or – 20cm.
22- Cosine ratio?
10:1
23- Beam width?
10cm width per 100m
