What is a class A vehicle ?
A vehicle with a gvwr of 26,001 lbs or more towing a trailer of 10,001 lbs or more
What is a class B vehicle ?
A vehicle with a gvwr of 2600,1 lbs or more (normally straight trucks)
What is a class C vehicle ?
A vehicle less than 26,001 lbs transporting 16 or more ppl or hazardous materials
What should you do when approaching a vehicle ?
See if vehicle is leaning to one side, look for obvious damage, fluid leaks or hazards to vehicle
What is step 1 of a pre trip inspection ?
Check the last pre trip inspection report
What is step 2 of a pre trip inspection ?
Check all engine fluid levels, security and condition of belts, look for leaks and check all wiring insulation.
How do you check the abs (anti braking system), and air pressure ?
The abs light on dash should come on then turn off, and air pressure should build from 50 - 90 psi in 3 min
How do you avoid rolling back when accelerating ?
Partially engage clutch before taking foot off brake, engage e brake the accelerate, or engage trailer brake hand valve
What could happen you accelerate too roughly ?
If pulling a trailer trailercoupling could be damaged or if in inclimate weather drive wheels may spin
What is step 3 of a pre trip inspection ?
Engage parking brake and gearshift, listen to engine for noise. Look at all gauges. Controls, mirrors and emergency equipment.
What is step 4 of the pre trip inspection ?
Turn off the engine, turn on and check all lights.
What is the rule of thumb for backing ?
Back towards the driver’s side so you can see behind you.
How can we know when to shift up ?
Watch tachometer and shift when truck is at its top rpm range, orlearn what speed your gears are good for and use speedometer.
When should you down shift ?
Before starting down a hill or entering a curve
What are all the steps of backing ?
Start in proper position, look at your path, use mirrors on both sides, back slowly, back and turn to the drivers side, use a helper.
Most important hand sign to agree on with a spotter ?
Stop
What are the four types of retarder ?
Exhaust, engine, hydraulic, electric
How do retarders work and when should you turn them off ?
They apply their braking power to the drive wheels when you fully let your foot off the accelerator. You should turn them off in inclimqte weather.
How far do good drivers look ahead ?
12 to 15 seconds
How to check your mirror when changing lanes ?
Before you change lanes, after you’ve signaled, during the lane change, after the lane change
How fast to put out emergency warning devices if you must stop ?
Within 10 minutes

One sec per 10 feet of vehicle plus an extra second if over 40 mph
