- Between sunset and sunrise (PWC only).
- In any race, display, regatta, exhibition, or similar operation.

Hull Identification Number AKA Boatcode. A HIN gives all powered vessels a unique number.
What records exist of a HIN?
- The HIN plate must be permanently attached and clearly displayed on the hull.
- A certificate issued by the manufacturer.
- HIN is also listed on the Personal Properties Security Register.
What is an Australian Builders Plate?
The ABP provides safety information about the boats capacity and capability.
What information is included on an ABP?
- Maximum weight and power rating of the engine.
- Maximum number of people on board and equipment.
- Maximum weight on board including people and equipment.
- Buoyancy statement ( for boats up to 6m long).
- Warning statements.
What are the two types of ABP’s?
- Boats up to 6m long.

How must a ABP be displayed?
Permanently where it is clearly displayed and visible to the driver.
Where must a registration number be displayed?
On both sides of the hull.
Where are sailing boats permitted to display their registration?
On the transom.
What are the regulations surrounding the display of registration numbers?
- Contrasting colour to the hull.
- Solid and clear in numerals and uppercase letters.
- Minimum 150mm high for power boats.
- Minimum 100mm high for sailing boats and PWC.
- Must be well above the normal waterline so it can be seen at all times.
What is a safety label?
Displays the maximum number of people and the load a vessel can carry including other safety information. Must be displayed on board where everyone can see it.
What vessels must have a safety label?
Powered vessels (not including sailing boats with engines or PWC’s) must have a safety label.
What specific label to PWC’s require?
PWC behaviour label the shows the key rules the driver must follow.
