LIBS 7002 1.2 Flashcards
What is a Good Will?
It is a will that acts in accordance with the dictates of the moral law because it recognizes the moral law (and sees that it is binding).
What is the only proper motive for an action for Kant?
A proper motive for an action is the recognition of one’s moral obligation and acting on that obligation with respect only for the moral law. Any other reason other than an obligation to the moral law will have no moral worth.
What guarantees that you have a good will and that you are doing the right thing?
The only way to guarantee that one is doing the right thing is to recognize that something is the right thing and that it is the right thing to do (as a fact), which is what motivates you to act.
