What did liberals be lice about individualism
That humans should be left free as possible in order to pursue own self interest.
They believe individuals are unique with their won talent and abilities.

natural rights to life, liberty and property.
What did liberals argue every individual seeks
- Self-determination: masters of our fate
- Self-realisation:
- Self-fulfilment: made the most of our talents
How did Locke say humans were born
As a blank piece of paper on which knowledge was written based on our experiences
Why did Locke want propel to accept tradition or others opinions
He said ‘there was so much falsehood and error amongst men than truth and knowledge’ and individuals must think for themselves and REASON must be our last judge and guidance to everything
What do lIberals believe our rationality makes us realise
Allows us realise that selfishness and disrespect for others can be a disadvantage to us and if we don’t respect others, then others wont respect us and we are left with frustration.
Due to optimism, what do liberals reject
The idea of original sin- because it believes that humanity is innately flawed and inclined to fail
Why do liberal thinkers argue human nature isn’t set in stone
Because it is constantly progressing and developing through greater knowledge.
Why do liberals think humans today are more rational
They argue humans progress, so today they are likely to be more rational, intelligent and respectful than they were in the past - this idea is called developmental individualism
Developmental individualism
Relates to John Stuart Mill, who wished to focus on what individuals could become, viewing the states role as enabling individuals flourish through govt intervention.
Supports Mill’s emphasis on role of education.
