- freedom should be exercised only if it does not threaten the peace and freedom of others

- People are responsible for their own prosperity, if people were not prepared to use their initiative then they would remain poor
- taxation is based on the ability to pay

- they support state organised welfare
- believe everyone is entitled to a radon able standard of living and prospects of future well being
- constitutes social justice
- recognise that the whole community has responsibility to help those in need
