Plateau
Crop that is raised for sale.
Cash Crop
The height of land above or below sea level
Elevation
A deep crack in Earth’s surface
Rift
Rich in the substances plants need to grow well
Fertile
A long period of little or no rain.
Drought
A river or stream that flows into a larger river
Tributary
To supply with water through a ditch, pipe, channel, or sprinkler.
Irrigate
A fertile place in a desert where there is water and vegetation.
Oasis
A region of tall grasses with scattered trees.
Savanna
A person who has no permanent, settled home and who instead moves from place to place.
Nomad
Raising just enough crops to support one’s family.
Subsistence farming
A system for producing, distributing, consuming, and owning goods and services.
Economy
To add variety to; to expand a country’s economy by increasing the variety of goods produced.
Diversify
the exact Location of a place on earth, determined by Coordinates or a street address
Absolute Location
when humans adjust their lifestyles to suit their Environment
Adapt
answers the question “what is it like there?”

Water that falls to the ground as rain, sleet, hail, or snow

The average weather over many years
Tropical Cyclone
An intense wind and rain that forms over oceans in the tropics
Tundra
An area of cold climate and low-lying vegetation
Canopy
The layer formed by the uppermost branches of a rainforest
Savanna
A parklike combination of grasslands and scattered trees.
Desert Scrub
Desert vegetation that needs little water
Deciduous Trees
Trees that lose their leaves seasonally
Coniferous Trees
Trees that produce cones to carry seeds
