You touch the stimulus (the flame of a candle), the receptor (in this case thermo) receives pain, the sensory neuron (afferent pathway) sends the message of pain to the spinal cord, where it is processed by the interneuron, a response is sent to the receptor from the spinal cord via a motor neuron (efferent pathway) which makes the muscle contract and moves the receptor away from the thing that’s causing pain.
