Lg Flashcards
What is a circuit?
A electric path that transmits electricity
What is a circuit?
A electric path that transmits electricity
What does a circuit consist of?
Conducting Path
Load
Power Supply
What does a circuit consist of?
Conducting Path
Load
Power Supply
Series Circuit
Made by connecting end of one device to start of another
Parallel Circuit
Same Terminals of both devices are connected together
Ions
Atom or molecule with overall net charge
Ionic Bond
Chemical bond which oppositely charged ions electrically attached
Cation
Ion with positive overall net charge (lost electrons)
Anion
Ion with negative net charge (gained electrons)
What is electricity?
When energy is carried by movement of electrons
What are electrons?
They contain electric charge (positive or negative)
Static electricity
Electrons that build up in one spot (don’t move)
Current Electricity
Passes Brough a flowing and free pathway
What is energy?
It is the capacity for doing work
Types of energy
Kinetic
Thermal
Nuclear
Chemical
Exothermic
Reaction that gives off heat
Endothermic
Reaction that absorbs heat
What is ohms law?
Formula used to calculate relationship between current, voltage and resistance
What is a resistor?
Materials that don’t allow easy current flow & contain lots of bonds between atoms
What is a fixed resistor?
Resistance is fixed
What is a variable resistor?
Resistance that can be varied by adapting the length of a wire (greater length = greater resistance = lower current)
What is the Ph scale?
A universal method of testing how acidic or basic a substance is.
If the substance is <7 = acidic if it’s >7= basic
If it equals 7 it is neutral
The more hydrogen in the substance, the lower the ph it has
What is current?
The flow of electrons along a conducting path (amps)
What is voltage?
They are the amount of energy pushing a circuit
What is resistance?
It measures how resisting the electrons in a circuit are
Law of conservation of mass
Mass can be neither made nor destroyed during a chemical reaction
What is a chemical reaction?
It takes place when bonds between atoms are broken and new bonds formed (creates new atomic arrangement)
What is a physical reaction?
Matter changes form
What is a chemical reaction?
Matter changes chemical identity
Ionic compounds
Metallic cation and non metallic anion
Radioactive decay
The unstable isotope decays into a more stable form
Unstable Sunstance
Protons and neutrons are not held together strongly
Stable substance
Protons and neutrons are held strongly toegtehr
Nuclear radiation
Isotopes of an element with equal protons but different neutrons
Types of radiation
Alpha
Beta
Gamma
What is a conductor?
Materials through which electricity flows easily (metals)
What is an insulator?
Materials where electrons and ions are held tightly together (no free particles, no electric flow) plastic, wood, glass
What is metallic structure?
The bonding between two + atoms to from a bond
