Q

What is a Clear to Close (CTC)?

LFN SOP 7.1.6

A

A CTC action is the final safety step for post-maintenance pre-flights. They ensure all tools have been accounted for, no FOD remains in the work area(s) and accessed areas have been secured. Any LFN pilot or mechanic who did not do the work may complete the CTC.
* Have a discussion on the specifics of the maintenance action
* Lookout for FOD
* Use a flashlight and mirror to access difficult locations
* Additional Inspection Required (AIR) actions do not require a CTC

Q

When should you use a start cart at LFN bases?

LFN SOP 8.2.4

A

Use start carts whenever possible at LFN bases. Ensure medical crew members know how to operate the cart. DO NOT use a start car while the cart itself is plugged into a power source (outlet). This may deliver power in excess of 31v and cause the cart to malfunction or damage the aircraft.

EC-135: carts should only be use for the first engine. Disconnect prior to starting #2.

Bell 429: Start cart use is not mandatory.
