Grammatically:
Provare needs an A after
ie. Provo a leggere ogni giorno

Potere has no prep position ever. Just straight to the verb.
ie. La compagnia può assumere nuovi dipendenti.

Meaning:
Provare is to tentatively try something
Potere is ask permission to do something
