Informal everyday language used by a certain region e.g. soccer
Conjunctions
Connects words phrases and clauses e.g. I don’t like to run OR swim
Also counts as zeugma
Connotation
E.g. she was feeling blue is a connotation as blue is a connotation for sadness
Convergence
Language and dialects all becoming the same
Determiner
Word that modifies describes or introduces a noun
E.g. four wheels or your car
Elision
Usually used in informal language or texting e.g. sittin’
Euphemism
Words or an expression said instead of something offensive or insensitive e.g. passed away instead of dying
Hyperbole
Exaggerated statements not meant to be taken literally
Idiolect
Speech habits of a certain person E.g. someone saying innit
Idioms
An expression with a figurative meaning attached r.g. Over the moon
Modals
Modal verbs : will would should may might must
Auxiliary verb
A verb that expresses tense mood or voice e.g. it IS raining. He WAS upset

Be, do, and have
Personification
Representation as a thing or abstraction as a person e.g. the sun smiled down on us
Prepositions
a word or group of words used before a noun, pronoun, or noun phrase to show direction, time, place, location or to introduce an object
